There wasn’t a dry eye in the office today as Sheila Cripes made the final payment on her mortgage. Sheila became a homeowner partner on Sept 7, 2000, closed on her mortgage on March 20, 2002, and officially paid off her home today!

Congratulations, Sheila, from all of us at Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity!

Like those who’ve come before them, the current Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Jackson County class recently tackled the challenging subject of housing within our community. After a brief presentation by Chipola Habitat’s Executive Director Carmen D. Smith, the group engaged in a robust discussion of the roadblocks to housing affordability and the opportunity for partnerships between organizations such as Habitat with individuals and agencies across the region.

Participants were given the opportunity to tour the homes being constructed as part of the Chipola Street Development, where they also met homeowner partner Malcolm McKay.
