Jackson County, FL — This fall, Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity will take part in Habitat for Humanity International's first-ever Rural Rally. The initiative will highlight the need for affordable housing in rural America and will be included as part of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.

The Carter Work Project is Habitat's flagship build honoring the profound impact President and Mrs. Carter had on Habitat for Humanity's mission worldwide. This year's Carter Work Project will take place during the last week of October, bringing together thousands of volunteers to build 25 homes on the east side of Austin, Texas.

Alongside the project's signature large-scale build, the new Rural Rally component will support home builds and rehabs in more than 60 rural communities, stretching across at least 20 states and all regions of the U.S.

Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity will join the Rural Rally by completing construction on a home during the last week of October in Gillis Ridge, a seven-home subdivision in Marianna. This home was started in May during our Women Build event with local women framing the walls for the house.

Chipola Area Habitat Board of Directors will kick the week off by volunteering together on October 24th. Local businesses have sponsored a half-day throughout the week, with their employees working on the house. Business Sponsors include Florida Public Utilities, Woodalls Heating and AC, First Federal Bank, Donofro Architects, Chipola Realty, HNB Bank, and DHM Engineering..

While fast-growing urban areas receive much attention regarding the national housing crisis, rural America is often overlooked. In Florida, one out of every six rural households spend more than 50% of their monthly income on housing.

Since 1988, Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity has helped families achieve self-reliance and stability through shelter. Developing community partnerships and the shared goal of transforming lives are vital to our work. We believe that families should not just survive, but that they should flourish. We understand that adequate shelter often is the catalyst that ignites transformation.

With affiliates in cities and towns of all sizes across the United States, Habitat for Humanity acts as a bridge between urban, suburban and rural areas, working with communities and policymakers to find affordable housing solutions that work for all Americans.
