Privacy Policy
Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (“Chipola Area Habitat” or “we”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and what rights you have with respect to your personal information.
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information provided to Chipola Area Habitat when you make a donation, register for an event, apply for a homeownership or repair program, volunteer with us, sign up for a newsletter, or visit our website. It also applies to personal information you may provide to us by telephone, email, regular mail, social media, or in person.
Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity is an independent, locally governed affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. This Privacy Policy applies only to Chipola Area Habitat’s own operations and website. Your use of the Habitat for Humanity International website (habitat.org) is governed by that organization’s separate privacy policy.
I. Information We Collect
We collect personal information in three primary ways: information you provide to us directly,
information collected automatically when you visit our website, and information we may obtain
from public sources or third parties.
A. Information You Provide Directly
We may collect personal information when you:
Make a donation or financial contribution;
Apply for a homeownership, home repair, or home preservation program;
Register to volunteer with us, including for builds or ReStore shifts;
Sign up for newsletters, events, or other communications;
Contact us by phone, email, or in person;
Engage with us on social media; or
Submit an application for employment or AmeriCorps service.
The types of information we may collect include your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, and payment or billing information when relevant to a transaction. For homeownership and repair program applicants, we may also collect household income information, family size, employment information, and other details required for program eligibility determinations.
B. Credit Card and Billing Information
When you make a donation online, Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity uses a third-party payment processor to handle your transaction via a secure, encrypted connection. We never retain your complete credit card number. Only staff who need access to your financial information to perform specific job functions are granted that access.
C. Sensitive Personal Information
We do not collect sensitive personal information (such as health information, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, or citizenship status) unless there is a clear reason to do so—such as to provide appropriate accommodations at a volunteer build—and then only with your permission. All personal information collected about children will be treated as sensitive and collected only with explicit consent of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 16 without parental consent.
D. Automated Information
When you visit our website, we may automatically collect certain information including:
Your IP address and geographic location information;
Browser type and device characteristics;
Pages you viewed and time spent on our website;
Websites that referred you to our site; and
Dates and times of your visits.
Most web browsers accept cookies automatically. You may set your browser to refuse cookies; however, doing so may limit certain features of our website.
II. How We Use Your Information
Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity uses personal information for the following purposes:
A. Program and Administrative Purposes
To process and acknowledge donations and provide tax receipts;
To administer homeownership, home repair, and home preservation program applications;
To coordinate volunteer activities and build events;
To respond to your inquiries and correspondence;
To maintain records of your relationship history with us;
To manage ReStore donations and retail operations; and
To fulfill any legal or regulatory obligations.
B. Communications and Fundraising
We may use your contact information to send you updates about our work, fundraising appeals, volunteer opportunities, events, and news relevant to our mission in the Chipola area. We will not send you marketing communications if you tell us you do not wish to receive them. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time (see Section V below).
C. Analysis and Improvement
We analyze how visitors use our website in order to improve the content and navigation experience we provide. We may also use and disclose personal information in aggregate, anonymized form for reporting and strategic development purposes.
III. When and How We Share Your Information
Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity does not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:
A. Service Providers
We may share your information with third-party service providers who assist us in operating our website, processing payments, managing communications, or conducting other functions necessary to our mission. These providers are required to protect your information and use it only as authorized by us.
B. Habitat for Humanity International and the Habitat Network
As an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, we may share your personal information with Habitat for Humanity International or other Habitat affiliates as necessary to coordinate volunteer programs, comply with affiliate obligations, or connect you with relevant resources. Any such sharing will be conducted in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
C. Legal Requirements
We will disclose personal information when required to do so by law, including to government bodies for tax purposes or to law enforcement agencies for the prevention or detection of crime.
D. Targeted Fundraising
We may use your contact information (name, mailing address, phone number, or email) to contact you for fundraising purposes. Any such communication will provide you the opportunity to opt out of future communications. If you do not opt out, we may exchange or rent your information with other organizations for similar fundraising purposes. Your decision to opt out of fundraising communications will have no impact on your ability to receive services from Chipola Area Habitat or volunteer with us.
E. Social Media Matching
We may use your email address or phone number to match to your account on Facebook or other social media platforms in order to display Chipola Area Habitat content to you while you use those services. We only do this where you have consented to receiving marketing emails from us or have not opted out. You may update your preferences directly with us (see Section V) or through the settings of the relevant social media platform.
F. Confidentiality of Credit Card and Text Messaging Data
Under no circumstances do we share credit card information or text messaging opt-in data and consent with third parties for marketing purposes.
IV. How Long We Retain Your Information
We retain your personal information on our contact lists for as long as you continue to provide your consent. Your ongoing consent is presumed unless you inform us that you wish to be removed from our contact list. We will retain limited information about prior requests to be removed from contact lists to ensure we can honor those requests going forward.
Beyond active contact list use, we retain information only as long as necessary to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations—for example, to document funding sources in connection with our 501(c)(3) status or to support legacy giving administration.
