Current Project

Chipola Street

About the Project

TYPE: Multi-home Project

LOCATION: Chipola Street in Marianna

CONSTRUCTION START: April 2020

Expanding the Heart of the City

The Chipola Street project is a new construction located a block away from the courthouse in downtown Marianna, not only making it centrally located but placing it within walking distance to many of the amenities in the city. The plot of land is destined to host four new construction, single-family projects, each one providing shelter for qualifying families that were impacted by Hurricane Michael.

In partnership with Auburn University’s Rural Studio (AURS), two 2 bedroom/1 bath homes and two 1 bedroom/1 bath homes will be constructed. This is the first time that Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity is constructing 1- and 2-bedroom homes, from the ground-up. The house plans for this site were developed by AURS and have been adjusted to comply (and exceed!) our local and state building codes.

As the size of the families that apply through the Habitat housing program continue to change, the partnership with AURS helps the organization serve more families by meeting the unique challenges and needs they present.

This project has been in the planning phases since 2019, and construction is set to begin in April 2020. The anticipated completion of these four homes is December 2020.
