Hope after the Hurricane
4217 Oak Street is a rehabilitation project begun in the late fall of 2019. This property is nestled in a quiet neighborhood in Westend Marianna. Upon completion, the house will become the permanent home for brother and sister duo Algene and Carol Bellamy.
Like the rental property where the Bellamys currently live, the Oak Street house was impacted by Hurricane Michael in October 2018. Unlike their current rental, the house at Oak Street is being completely transformed by Chipola Habitat staff and volunteers. The project began with a complete gutting of the interior of the home. Since then, new mechanical, plumbing, electrical and roofing materials have been installed. The energy efficiency of the home has also been improved as spray foam insulation was installed.
The home is being Rehabbed with the assistance of sponsorships secured through the Wells Fargo Team Member Volunteer Program (TMVP) as well as a grant awarded through Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI).
To date over 35 volunteers have volunteered on this site and have logged over 300 volunteer hours. Volunteers assisted with the gutting, framing, drywall installation, and exterior siding.
