After her rental home was destroyed by Hurricane Michael in October 2018, single mom and Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity homeowner partner Tiffany Richardson was forced to move into a small travel trailer with her four children Kaylee (10, not pictured), Rynen (6), Kyndall (3), and Kynedi (9 months). During a thunderstorm in 2019, shortly after her acceptance into the Habitat housing program, the travel trailer sustained damage, which caused the growth of mold and required a portion of the structure to be closed off, leaving the family with even less space.

Tiffany, who works for the Jackson County Health Department, was also diagnosed with cancer in 2020. Her partnership with Habitat for Humanity will not only provide her family with affordable shelter but will also give her peace of mind and a safe place to recover as she undergoes treatment.

how to help-volunteer-admin

Opportunities abound to volunteer at Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity and every individual who selflessly donates their time is vital to the success of the organization. Because volunteers are so important to our cause, we are pleased to announce that Shelby O’Connor has joined our team in the position of Volunteer Coordinator.

Shelby is a familiar face to many within our community; a native to Marianna and graduate of Chipola College, she has also volunteered at the Chipola affiliate office and on our build sites. She has extensive experience in customer service and is eager to tap into that expertise to revitalize and expand Chipola Habitat’s volunteer program.

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday Now is a global day of giving and unity in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

This unparalleled time has impacted all of us. But while many of us are safely sheltering in place with our loved ones, imagine what it’s like for a family who doesn’t have a safe place to stay, or who must shelter in place within a home infested with mold or other unhealthy conditions. Amid this crisis, Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity is needed more than ever. Our staff and volunteers are working to move our mission forward, partnering with local families and individuals to make their homeownership dreams a reality.

In a time when many take the ability to shelter safely at home for granted, the living conditions of many in our community don’t allow for this. Help us remedy that.

Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity doesn’t just build safe and affordable homes in partnership with families and individuals in need. We build hope. On Giving Tuesday Now, your donation will help support affordable homeownership opportunities locally in Jackson and Washington counties.
